In today’s article I’m going to be discussing the many benefits of maca root and how taking a maca root powder supplement can help naturally enhance your health. Now this might seem strange to you, but maca is actually a cruciferous vegetable, which puts it in the same family of vegetables as broccoli and cabbage. It’s also an adaptogen herb.
This makes maca a very unique supplements when it comes to all of the benefits it has to offer, due to both the family it comes from as well as being an adaptogen, which I’ll get into more detail about shortly. Maca root is typically found in the high altitude mountains of Peru in South America, and it’s been used for centuries in traditional medicine to balance hormones and improve libido.
As I stated, Maca root is classified as an adaptogen herb, which means that it can help the body to adapt and deal with various stressors in a better way. For that reason, there are quite a few benefits to taking maca root powder on a daily basis. Keep reading, because I’ll share with you how I recommend you use it for best results.
First of all, maca root is really good at helping to naturally balance hormones. Whether it’s someone dealing with the unpleasant side effects of menopause or PMS, or a condition like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), maca root can offer relief. In fact, there is a lot of promising research on maca’s hormone-balancing benefits.
One of the main reasons why it’s so helpful is because it helps to decrease cortisol levels. Cortisol is known as the “stress hormone”, or “aging hormone”, and by lowering stress levels and hormonal imbalances, deep healing can start to happen when taking maca root.
As I mentioned, maca root can help with conditions likes hormone imbalance and polycystic ovary syndrome. Another issue that it can also help with is infertility. There’s a significant number of women who are looking for new solutions to help encourage pregnancy.
Obviously, the kind of diet and lifestyle you have can play significant roles in fertility, and there can also be other complicating factors as well. However, there is research that indicates that maca root could be an herbal supplement that can significantly aid the body in balancing hormones, which could lead to greater fertility and a higher chance of conceiving.
In fact, it’s been used throughout South America for centuries to boost the reproductive health of both women men and women, which brings us to another benefit to using maca supplementation: it may naturally improve testosterone levels in men.
But if you’re a woman and thinking, “I don’t need an increase in my testosterone levels,” don’t worry – this doesn’t happen for women. Remember, maca works by balancing out hormones. So if you’re a man struggling with low testosterone, or andropause, maca root can definitely help in that department.
There are other things you can do as well. For those interested, there’s a great article titled “Andropause – Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments.” So guys, if you want to find out more about what you can do to combat low testosterone, check out that entire article.
But like I say, maca root is a great natural supplement that can help out in that way.
And finally, another important benefit that’s associated with using maca root powder is increased energy levels. If you’re constantly dealing with chronic low energy and fatigue, or adrenal fatigue, it’s been shown that maca root can help out with that as well.
So start supplementing with maca root if you want to get those energy levels up. I like to take it before exercising. I’ll also take it first thing in the morning too, to kind of get my energy up and going for the day. I personally mix one tablespoon of maca in a fruit smoothie once a day. That’s one way I do it. I also make a maca powder smoothie made with some dark chocolate and cacao. If you try mixing maca, cacao, and some coconut oil together, you’ve got a real energy-boosting breakfast smoothie that’s a perfect way to start your day.
